AC Milan have played down hopes that they could sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Barcelona, one again labelling the operation "impossible" and stating the Swedish striker is above what they can afford.

Talk had been continuing to link the Serie A side with a move for Ibrahimovic, with rumours from Italy suggesting Milan were looking to sell a whole host of players to fund the move. And while managing director Adriano Galliani did not dismiss that, he once again repeated the difficulty of any transfer.

"The operation is impossible", Galliani said to Gazetta dello Sport. "He earns a salary that we cannot afford. I have said a thousand times that the Spanish tax system is different. When we had [Marco] van Basten it was the opposite."

Once again showing the lack of funds at the San Siro, Galliani also stated the club would have to sell before they buy.
