Serie A outfit Napoli have turned their attention away from trying to buy Lucas Leiva from Liverpool. The southern Italian side have concluded that an operation to take the 24-year-old from Anfield would be too complex and instead Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fernandinho represents a more realistic option.

Fernandinho, another Brazilian, is ready to quit the Ukrainian side and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, has refused to renew his contract with Mircea Lucescu’s men.

Now, with the 25-year-old’s deal expiring in 2012, Shakhtar are ready to bid farewell to the talented midfield schemer.

With Shakhtar expected to ask some €4M for Fernandinho, it seems likely that Napoli will face some opposition in their bid for the player. Serie A rivals Juventus and Fiorentina are also thought to be watching the situation in Donetsk with great interest.
