Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera has emerged as a transfer target for English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur according to reports from Italy.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan could be allowed to leave Lazio for Spurs as Gazzetta dello Sport report that the Rome club are themselves plotting a bid for Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

Should Lazio be able to tempt Marchetti to the Stadio Olimpico, Muslera may well be allowed to leave for White Hart Lane providing Spurs can make the Serie A side an attractive offer.

Muslera joined Lazio in 2007 from Uruguayan side Montevideo Wanderers and has made a positive impression on Spurs’ scouts. The shot-stopper was a key figure behind Lazio’s run to the top of the Serie A table this season before eventually falling away – the Rome club finished fifth – and also played at last summer’s World Cup.

How much will be required to tempt Lazio into selling their Uruguayan international is unclear, but if Marchetti is secured, then the road would be paved for Muslera to head to the Premier League.
