Serie A side Palermo have rejected a bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Uruguayan striker Abel Hernandez according to reports from Italy.

The 20-year-old forward was, reported Sky Sport 24, the subject of a €10M offer from Harry Redknapp’s side, although that was dismissed out of hand by Palermo.

Highly-rated Hernandez joined the Italian side in 2009, making the switch from his homeland club of Penarol. Having shone at Under-20 level with Uruguay, the youngster at once set about settling into life at Palermo, first playing for the side’s Primavera team – and with great success as part of the Trofeo Giacinto Faccetti winning group.

Hernandez has continued his progress through this campaign, improving with Palermo’s senior side and scoring eight times this season, four of those goals coming in the club’s Europa League run.

At just 20, the striker has also broken through into the Uruguay team, clocking up two goals in three appearances.

Interest from Redknapp and Spurs therefore comes as little surprise, with Hernandez already beginning to fulfil his undoubted potential. Should the English club want to push a deal forward however, a fee greatly in excess of €10M will be required.
