Celtic have been linked with a shock swoop for Spanish legend Raul.

Speculation is growing at Schalke that the former Real Madrid icon could move on either in January or when his contract expires next summer.

The striker, who arrived at the Ruhr giants one year ago, is thought to be becoming increasingly unhappy and is rumoured to not see eye-to-eye with Schalke coach Ralf Rangnick.

Raul turned down an approach from English Premier League outfit Blackburn Rovers in January, but despite statements playing down an imminent exit, hawks have continued to circle – the latest of these being Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine will be Celtic’s main opposition should they firm up their interest in Raul.

The 34-year-old scored 13 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances last season; he has also hit the back of the net in the current campaign, scoring twice in four Bundesliga starts.
