Newcastle United are ready to continue their policy of snapping up Ligue 1 talents.

The Magpies, who have money available to spend in January, have targeted Auxerre midfielder Alain Traore.

Sources in France have confirmed that Alan Pardew’s side, who have been the surprise package in this season’s English Premier League, have been running the rule over the 22-year-old and could well launch a bid in the new year.

The tough-tackling midfielder was brought through Auxerre’s youth ranks before being handed his senior debut in 2007.

A spell on loan at Brest was to follow in 2009 as Auxerre worked to speed up Traore’s development.

Traore is under contract with Auxerre until 2014 and has earned 12 caps with Burkina Faso.
