AC Milan and Arsenal could go head-to-head in the summer for Valencia defender Adil Rami, according to Tutto Mercato.

The former Lille stopper has garnered a whole host of plaudits in La Liga this season with a series of highly impressive displays for Los Che, not least against Barcelona.

Indeed, Rami has progressed so quickly since his switch from French football that a number of Europe’s elite are showing an interest, with English giants Manchester United believed to have begun to track the 26-year-old closely.

But the clubs keenest on Rami appear to be AC Milan and Arsenal, two sides that clashed memorably in this season’s Champions League Round of 16.

The Rossoneri are on the lookout for defensive additions and there has been speculation that veteran stopper Alessandro Nesta may be bound for Juventus in the summer, while Milan also feel the need to find a world-class partner for Thiago Silva in the centre of defence.

Arsenal meanwhile could provide a more attractive destination for Rami, with the prospect of playing under countryman Arsene Wenger an appealing one.

The Gunners look set to splash the cash in the summer in an attempt to ensure last season’s disastrous start, which ruled out a Premier League title bid from as early as October, is not repeated.

Rami is under contract with Valencia until 2015.
