Manchester City mounted a scouting trip to Belgium at the weekend to watch Anderlecht talent Cheikhou Kouyate.

The Citizens interest in the promising 22-year-old defender-cum-midfielder is well known and speculation has been rife over a bid for the Senegalese in the summer.

And Manchester City are making sure they keep tabs on Kouyate by watching the starlet in action against Club Brugge in a crunch Jupiler Pro League clash.

Kouyate helped Anderlecht to secure a vital 1-0 win over Christoph Daum’s men, a result which keeps the side on course to win this season’s Belgian title.

Anderlecht are keen on keeping hold of Kouyate into next season, though a substantial offer could cause second thoughts to be had in Brussels.

The player himself though could also take some convincing to join the Citizens in the summer.

Kouyate, who is alive to interest from Manchester City, has insisted that he is not yet ready to make the leap to such a club.

"I’m not ready yet to join a club like Manchester City", said the starlet.

"I’ll probably be ready within a year or two."
