Barcelona have placed David Villa’s suitors on alert by slapping a €20M asking price on the striker, ahead of a likely summer exit from the Camp Nou.

According to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona accept that Villa may well have to be sold during the next transfer window, as the striker becomes uneasy about his playing time at the club in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

And Barcelona are willing to sell, but only for €20M.

Villa was chased by Arsenal throughout last month’s transfer window, but Barcelona were not willing to sell the 31-year-old mid-season.

The situation will be different in the summer however and Villa is understood to be of the opinion that he must play regularly throughout 2013/14 to be ready to represent Spain in Brazil, something which is not guaranteed at the Camp Nou.

Arsenal may well revive their interest in the 31-year-old, who is a player rated highly by manager Arsene Wenger.

Other clubs too may yet join the bidding, with the prospect that Pep Guardiola may consider taking Villa to Bayern Munich surely a real one.

And while €20M may be considered steep for a player in his 30s, Barcelona believe it is a reasonable sum given Villa’s consistent goalscoring exploits.
