Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has insisted that Arsenal have not yet made an enquiry about the availability of the club’s Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar.

Cesar was one of Mark Hughes marquee signings during the summer of last year, after the then-QPR manager brought in former England number one Rob Green.

Since his move to Loftus Road from Inter Milan, Cesar has proven himself to be a top-class custodian, cementing his place in the first team, although his season with QPR has been hit with injuries.

Yesterday, the Brazilian international admitted that with the Rs relegated, he might have to seek a move away from the club – a development Arsenal may well be interested in, following talk that Arsene Wenger is in search of a goalkeeper.

But Harry Redknapp has merely shrugged off the news, saying in a press conference via the club’s feed, "Yeah, where’s he going? Arsenal? Maybe. But Arsene Wenger’s never phoned me."

Redknapp however admitted that Cesar may decide to leave due to his need to play.

"He’s a Brazilian national goalkeeper and he obviously wants to play at the top level, in the Premier League or in one of the big leagues in Europe. So it’s a problem for him.

"But he does need to play. He wants to play for Brazil in the World Cup next year, so I suppose him playing in the Championship is not going to help him", Redknapp added.

A few weeks ago, the Rs manager already placed on record that only a top offer will convince the club to sell their prize custodian.
