Japan have become the first team to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, following a 1-1 draw against Australia in a World Cup qualifier.

The Blue Samurai moved to the top of the Group B table in the Asian qualifying zone, and are currently on 14 points.

They have one more game remaining in the World Cup qualifiers – against Iraq next Tuesday.

The Socceroos opened the scoring in the 82nd minute of the match in Saitama following a misshit cross from midfielder Tommy Oar, which saw the back of the net.

However, Alberto Zaccheroni’s side equalised in the 90th minute, courtesy of a well taken penalty from CSKA Moscow attacking schemer Keisuke Honda.

Australia are currently second in the Group B qualifying zone, with seven points, and have two more games remaining.

Japan will be appearing for the fifth time in the FIFA World Cup, following their appearances in 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010.

They are currently ranked 30th in the world.
