Chelsea have bid €50m for Edinson Cavani, however Napoli have yet to accept the offer, having pushed for midfielder Ramires to be included in the deal, something the Blues have vetoed, according to Sky Italia.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed last night that he was expecting a phone call from Chelsea over signing Cavani "within hours" and the Azzurri supremo was proved correct, as the call duly came.

De Laurentiis was presented with a bid of €50m for his star striker, €13m less than Cavani’s release clause, which the Napoli president has consistently held firm to.

Earlier this summer Chelsea had suggested €30m plus Fernando Torres could be a deal made real, but Napoli were not keen on the Spaniard being included.

One player Rafael Benitez’s men do want from Chelsea though is Brazilian midfielder Ramires – but the Blues do not want to part with the all-action schemer.

At present Napoli’s intention is to refuse the €50m offer for Cavani, as it does not meet the player’s release clause, which they are intent on receiving.

However, the door has been left open for a rethink on the part of last season’s Serie A runners-up, who could yet decide to cave in and accept the bid, or tell Chelsea to top the sum up to gain the green light.

Cavani scored 29 goals in 34 Serie A games for Napoli last season, yet again proving his worth.

The Uruguayan has also been linked with Arsenal and Real Madrid.
