While highly-rated Schalke youngster Julian Draxler has recently renewed his contract with the club for a further two years in an effort to signal his commitment to the Ruhr giants, buried within the paperwork is a release clause totalling €45.5m.
Draxler saw his stock rise during the 2012/13 campaign by consistently displaying his full potential on the pitch, scoring a total 13 goals and providing seven assists in his 39 apperances for Die Konigsblauen at the young age of 19.
Such a gold mine of talent unsurprisingly registered on the radars of a host of top clubs, including Serie A top guns Inter Milan and Juventus, Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid as well as the Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund.
The suitors, however, were met with a barricade when Schalke signed Draxler to a new contract which saw him extend his stay at the Veltins Arena for a further two years, until 2018 – but not all is sealed yet.

Indeed, according to German daily Die Welt, Draxler’s new deal with Schalke has in it a release clause worth €45.5m, a fee that may not be too steep for London giants Chelsea and their new manager, the enigmatic Jose Mourinho.
True enough, Mourinho is an admirer of the 19-year-old Schalke playmaker, and according to German daily Kicker, may well use his alleged €130m war chest, handed by club owner Roman Abramovich, to swoop for Draxler.
Draxler, for his part, has already maintained his commitment with Schalke and has no plans to leave the club in the foreseeable future, despite the growing interest in his services.
