Tottenham Hotspur have put their names in the hat for talented winger and potential Borussia Dortmund target Bernard, according to Sky Italia.

Bernard, who is currently playing for Atletico Mineiro in Brazil, has been catching the attention of clubs following his progress through the youth ranks.

Indeed, Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil had indicated prior to their Copa Libertadores quarter-final clash last month that he had "five clubs interested in Bernard".

Quoted on Sambafoot, Kalil had added at the time: "I will find it very difficult to keep Bernard after the Libertadores."

Bernard’s 60 appearances in Brazil’s Serie A, where he has also scored 11 goals, have resulted in interest from Europe, with Spurs expected to give competition to Champions League finalists Dortmund.

The Bundesliga outfit are understood to be prepared for a €15m swoop and it remains to be seen if Spurs can match that amount.

Bernard’s arrival at White Hart Lane could become a further must for Spurs if their star Gareth Bale chooses the heights of La Liga’s Real Madrid.

The potential cash boost with Bale’s sale should, however, give manager Andre Villas-Boas plenty of opportunities to take on Dortmund in the hunt for Bernard, who has also been capped three times by Brazil.

Dortmund’s desire to bring the 20-year-old is fuelled by the departure of Mario Goetze, bound for Bayern Munich, even as the speculation around Robert Lewandowski refuses to die down.
