Napoli star Edinson Cavani has potentially dealt a blow to his suitors Chelsea and Manchester City by seemingly appealing to the powers-that-be at Real Madrid to help him realise a dream.

Cavani’s future has dominated headlines in England, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side linked heavily for the Uruguayan who is under contract until 2017 at Napoli, along with Chelsea.

However, Real Madrid have been in close competition for the striker, who claimed a 29-goal tally in 34 league games this season.

His abilities have made him a big target this summer, with Arsenal having also picked up the chase to bring him to England.

Cavani’s mother had recently claimed the player had held talks with both Real Madrid and Manchester City, despite saying "nothing concrete" had emerged.

And the 26-year-old, currently on duty for Uruguay in the Confederations Cup, was quoted by AS as saying: "Real Madrid is a very nice team. All the little children aspire to play there.

"Officially no one has spoken directly to me to make me an offer."

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has already made clear that any club wishing to take Cavani away will have to shell out the €63m release clause in his contract.

But the player, who boasts seven goals in seven Europa League games, added: "Now, I am not thinking about my future.

"Whatever happens regarding the clubs is not up to me, that’s for the clubs to decide."
