Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen’s future could still have a cloud hanging over it as the club revealed they were not interested in buying a potential replacement in AZ Alkmaar man Adam Maher.
It had been suggested that Eriksen would be allowed to seek potential employment with Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund or Monaco, if Maher could be brought in as a like-for-like successor.
However, that possibility has been thrown out by Ajax, with director of football Marc Overmars insisting they are looking at alternatives.
He told De Telegraaf: "I had Adam and his agent Sigi Lens call me, but we have made different choices. I also said that we have lost interest in the AZ player."

Maher has been a force to reckon with for AZ this season, as he turned out 31 times in the Eredivisie with seven goals and five assists.
His impact has been hailed by coach Gertjan Verbeek, who was left to wonder if AZ could hold on to the player if the right offer came along.
Ajax’s revelation should not dampen Maher’s desire for a move abroad, however, as he had also garnered interest from major clubs, including Manchester City, Barcelona and AC Milan.
