Thiago Alcantara should bide his time with Barcelona and achieve the success he deserves, according to club team-mate Gerard Pique, rather than make a move abroad.

Thiago proved his skill yet again on Tuesday night by grabbing a hat-trick to lead Spain’s Under-21 side to European Championship victory over Italy in Israel.

Reports of Thiago potentially joining Manchester United in England have taken on a new frenzy ever since goalkeeper David de Gea’s message on the match ball which said "see you in Manchester" in Spanish.

However, Thiago’s Barcelona team-mate Pique, currently playing in the Confederations Cup in Brazil, has pleaded with the 22-year-old to continue his footballing education in Spain.

He was quoted by Marca as saying: "We have to convince Thiago to stay at Barca. Players like Xavi have been patient and have ended up making history."

De Gea was revealed to be making the subtle hint towards Thiago after the final clash in Jerusalem, as Spain ran out 4-2 winners.

It sparked memories of when Cesc Fabregas was covered with a Barcelona shirt – whilst the player was still at Arsenal – after Spain clinched the 2010 World Cup, in an indication of where his national team-mates wanted him to move to.

Thiago, meanwhile, has been making waves in Spain with Barcelona, having played 27 times with two league goals last season.

His performances over the years had attracted attention in 2012, when Juventus and Roma emerged as contenders for his signature.
