Arsenal appear very close to securing Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain after the player’s father revealed they had been given permission to negotiate with the Gunners.

Juventus yesterday were reportedly ruled out in their pursuit of Higuain, author of 16 La Liga goals for Los Blancos this season, with the club’s director general Giuseppe Marotta declaring the Bianconeri to be "full" in terms of strikers.

Gonzalo Higuain has himself already claimed Real Madrid are aware of his decision to leave, and the club have now seemingly given their blessing for him to start talking with future employers.

The striker’s father Jorge Higuan was quoted by Fox Sports Argentina as saying: "We had not been negotiating with any club previously because we did not have an agreement with [Real Madrid].

"We now have permission to negotiate and I hope that soon you can see my son move to the Premier League."

Juventus have already shored up their attacking front with the signings of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente, while Arsenal have also recruited a forward in Yaya Sanogo.

Gonzalo Higuain, who joined Real Madrid in 2007 from River Plate, has a contract that runs until 2016.

He had enjoyed prolific spells during his early years, especially before the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, and has clocked up a total of 122 goals in 262 games in all competitions.
