Vitesse schemer Theo Janssen has backed Marco van Ginkel to make the grade at Chelsea and feels the Dutchman is ready for the step up that the Premier League will represent.

Chelsea have been doing the groundwork on signing Van Ginkel for some time, with Inside Futbol revealing a meeting which took place at the English club’s training ground in May, and even included a phone call with Jose Mourinho, when the Portuguese was still Real Madrid manager.

Van Ginkel was convinced and Chelsea have agreed a fee with Vitesse for the Holland Under-21 star.

The youngster had been concerned over how much playing time he will receive at Stamford Bridge, but for Janssen, who turned out for Ajax in 2011/12 before joining Vitesse, Van Ginkel is ready.

"He is ready for a step higher. The time has come for him", the 31-year-old told Omroep Gelderland.

However, despite losing the talents of Van Ginkel, Janssen is not worried and feels Vitesse have the players to cover Van Ginkel’s departure.

"For Marco, we have a different Marko, Vejinovic, and [Kelvin] Leerdam is already here, while Gael Kakuta and Patrick van Aanholt are yet to come."
