Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will miss the club’s pre-season tour after sustaining a hamstring injury, the Premier League champions have confirmed.
Rooney picked up the injury on the first day of the club’s tour in Bangkok and will be unavailable for the rest of the three-week trip, which includes stops in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.
The 27-year-old is expected to be sidelined for about a month and hence will miss new Manchester United manager David Moyes’ first few games in charge of the club.
"Following a scan this evening on a hamstring injury sustained in training, it has been decided that Wayne Rooney should return home immediately for further assessment and rehabilitation. It is anticipated he will be unavailable for selection for a month”, Manchester United said in a statement.

The forward, who will be flying home, is aghast with the injury and took to social networking to let his feelings be known.
Rooney posted on Facebook: "Gutted to have picked up a niggling injury especially as training was going so well, heading back to Manchester to have it assessed fully but early indications are nothing to worry about."
Manchester United will start their pre-season schedule on Saturday, when they face Singha All-Stars in Bangkok.
