Mamadou Sakho’s future lies in relative limbo, but the only ones with the answers are the player, his coach and his club president.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender is facing a threat to his position with the arrival of Marquinhos from AS Roma, who is expected to line up alongside the reliable Thiago Silva.

It means speculation around interest from AC Milan, Liverpool and Monaco could yet have an outcome, especially as Sakho is eyeing further involvement with France.

The 23-year-old has made 14 Les Blues appearances so far, but being second-choice at PSG will not help his international cause especially with the World Cup next year.

And it is here that Sakho insists his talks with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and new manager Laurent Blanc will prove decisive.

"When you’re an ambitious player, you dream to wear your country’s jersey all the time", he told L’Equipe. "This summer, I will make a clear choice keeping the France team in mind.

"Now that I’ve spoken to [Al-Khelaifi and Blanc], everything is clear in my head. I will announce my decision, which will result from these discussions, in the near future."

Sakho has been a regular with PSG since making the senior grade from the youth set-up back in 2007.

His 27 appearances, as well as two goals, went a long way to helping the club achieve a long-desired title last season.
