New Sunderland signing Andrea Dossena has branded the Premier League as the “most beautiful league in the world” after joining the Blacks Cats on a one-year deal on Monday.

The left-back has the experience of playing in England’s top flight as he has previously donned the colours of Liverpool during a one-and-a-half season spell with the Reds between 2008 and 2010.

The Italian was happy after joining Sunderland and is eager to work under his compatriot and manager Paolo Di Canio.

He explained to the club’s official site: “It’s easy for me to decide to come to Sunderland. I’m very happy to be here to come back to England in the Premier League.

“I’m very happy because I start to work with [an] Italian head coach and I know his kind of football, his kind of work; he worked hard and tried to do his best on the pitch and it’s the same from my career.

“The Premier League is the [most] beautiful league in the world; I left in 2010 and now I come back because I think that I can do my best for Sunderland.”

The 31-year-old, who counts Verona, Udinese and Palermo amongst his former clubs, has been capped 10 times by Italy and has also represented the nation at various youth levels.

He is Sunderland’s latest signing and follows the likes of Cabral, Vito Mannone, Emanuele Giaccherini and Jozy Altidore into the Stadium of Light this term.
