Serie A leaders Roma are taking a close interest in Patrice Evra's situation at Manchester United, with the Frenchman's deal at Old Trafford due to expire next summer.

The 32-year-old will turn 33 years old before the end of the current campaign and Manchester United attempted to sign a successor this year, when bidding for Everton left-back Leighton Baines, a deal that did not materialise.

According to Italian daily Ilsussidiario, Roma boss Rudi Garcia is a firm fan of Evra and the Giallrossi are keeping a close watch on his situation at the English champions.

Roma could opt to make a move for Evra in January if Manchester United renew their interest in England star Baines.

However, Evra's wage demands could be a sticking point, with the Frenchman mooted to earn €6m per year at Old Trafford.

Such a sum would be too much for Roma, who would be keen for Evra to take a substantial cut to switch to Italy.

Evra joined Manchester United from Monaco in 2006.
