Borussia Monchengladbach have reopened the door for a Luuk de Jong departure after sporting director Max Eberl claimed the club would consider offers.

Gladbach had seemingly ruled out any approaches by the likes of Newcastle United, PSV Eindhoven, FC Twente, Everton and Stoke City for De Jong back in mid-December.

This came despite the fact that De Jong has not started a single Bundesliga game in his 13 appearances.

His Holland World Cup hopes are hanging in the balance, while De Jong is joined by former Hoffenheim man Peniel Mlapa on the transfer speculation bandwagon.

And Eberl today told Bundesliga.com: "If an interesting offer comes in for either of them, then we will look into it and consider alternatives.

"Of course I can understand that Luuk and Peniel had other expectations for this season, which is perfectly legitimate.

"But our priority has got to be the best for Borussia and we can only play a strong second half of the season if we've got a well-balanced squad."
