Valencia have been rebuffed in their efforts to sign Iago Aspas from Liverpool.

The Reds are moving to complete a deal for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, a transfer that looks all but done for a fee of £16m – but it does not mean Aspas can leave.

According to Valencia-based daily Super Deporte, Los Che have kept trying to do a deal for Aspas until the last minute, but today have seen Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers flatly turn down their efforts.

Liverpool signed Aspas from Celta Vigo last summer, but the Spaniard has struggled to make an impact at Anfield.

There had been talk of a loan move for the player, with Swansea City having admitted an interest.

But heading into the business end of the season, it seems Rodgers has decided he needs to have Aspas available in a backup role.
