FC Groningen CEO Hans Nijland has confirmed the club are in talks with Ajax over "ambitious" starlet Richairo Zivkovic, but claims that no agreement has been reached yet.

The two clubs were yesterday believed to have shaken metaphorically over a €2.5m deal with a 10% bonus on top for the 17-year-old.

While Liverpool were also interested in Zivkovic, Ajax are clear favourites given the striker does not want to leave Holland at present.

Nijland was today quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying: "Negotiations are ongoing, so I cannot say too much about them.

"We wanted to extend his contract, but Richairo has shown to have ambitions. He wants to take a higher step. That's his right.

"But there is certainly no green light yet. After the weekend, we will continue talking. The talks with Ajax have been very enjoyable."

Zivkovic, contracted until 2016, has been a senior Groningen player since only last summer, but has made 20 Eredivisie appearances this season with five goals.
