Manchester United face powerful competition for Bayern Munich contract rebel Toni Kroos, with interest in the midfielder from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Kroos has put talks on extending a contract which runs out in 2015 on hold until after this summer's World Cup, having failed to reach agreement with Bayern Munich so far.

The Germany international is believed to want parity with the club's other top earners, which Bayern Munich are unwilling to grant.

Manchester United are keen to scoop up Kroos in the summer, but look to not be alone in their admiration for the star.

According to German magazine Kicker, Spanish heavyweights Barcelona and Real Madrid are now paying serious attention to Kroos and pondering their own swoops for the midfielder.

The pair will be able to offer Champions League football for next season, something Manchester United look unlikely to be able to match at present, as they sit just seventh in the Premier League table.

Kroos has clocked up 21 appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season, scoring once and providing four assists.
