Benfica have confirmed the signing of free agent Jonas on a two-year deal.

The Brazilian striker had been a free agent since parting ways with La Liga giants Valencia earlier this summer and as such was able to move outside the transfer window system.

Jonas had been strongly linked with English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, but it is Benfica who have won the race for his services.

Jonas has put pen to paper on a contract which keeps him at the Estadio da Luz until the summer of 2016.

The 30-year-old turned out for Valencia for four seasons, having joined the Spanish side from Brazilian outfit Gremio.
