Benfica appear to be raising the white flag over Arsenal and Liverpool linked defender Maxi Pereira.
The 30-year-old, who is a regular with the Uruguay national side, has been linked with a whole host of clubs in recent months.
Pereira's contract with Benfica has less than a year left to run, something which has further enhanced his attractiveness to potential suitors.
Now, according to Portuguese daily O Jogo, Benfica have actively begun to scour the transfer market for replacements.
There have been issues over a contract renewal between the Uruguayan's agent and Benfica and it is considered extremely likely that he will leave the Estadio da Luz.
However, whether the exit occurs in January or next summer remains to be seen and could well depend on Benfica's efforts to acquire a replacement.
