Premier League giants Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Dutchman Serge van den Ban as goalkeeping coach at the club's academy.

The 35-year-old, who is a product of the esteemed Ajax youth academy, enjoyed a career between the sticks in his homeland, turning out for clubs such as Haarlem, Dordrecht, MVV, Telstar and Ter Leede.




He made over 250 appearances as goalkeeper before heading into coaching, taking in spells at Ajax, FC Utrecht and with Netherlands' Under-15s.

 


Van den Ban joins Arsenal from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, where he has been working as a goalkeeping coach.

He links up with countryman Andries Jonker, who is head of Arsenal's academy.

Jonker told the club's site: "I am delighted that Serge is joining us."

And Jonker considers Van den Ban to be an expert when it comes to bringing through young goalkeeping hopefuls.

"He brings great experience and is an expert in developing young goalkeepers."

Van den Ban will work with the club's Under-6 to Under-16 age groups at Arsenal's Hale End academy base.
