Tiago Ilori's father admits that Sunderland are interested in signing his son, but has cast doubt on whether the Liverpool defender would agree to head to the Stadium of Light.

The Portuguese defender has just spent the season on loan in France's Ligue 1 with Bordeaux, but his father claims has been promised a chance to impress in pre-season with Liverpool.

Nevertheless, Ilori has been linked with several sides, who are monitoring his situation at Anfield.

Kola Ilori, the player's father, admits that Sunderland are one of the clubs keen. But he is unsure whether his son would be prepared to move even further north, with the weather a concern.

Speaking to Portuguese radio station Antena 1, Ilori senior said: "There are other clubs interested, like Sunderland.

"But Sunderland is a very cold city", he added.

Liverpool lavished £7m to sign Ilori from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2013, with the defender arriving on Merseyside as a highly rated talent.

However, he struggled to break into the first team and the Reds opted to send him to Granada in Spain to see out the 2013/14 campaign.

Ilori then linked up with Bordeaux last summer on loan.
