Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is relishing the competition for places within the Arsenal first team and believes that it is down to the players to seal a spot in the team.

Wilshere struggled with injuries last season and was reduced to just 22 first team appearances in a season in which Arsenal won the FA Cup for a second successive year and finished third in the league.

The England international is part of the Gunners’ pre-season tour of Singapore and scored from the spot-kick in a 4-0 rout of a Singapore XI in a friendly encounter yesterday.

Arsenal are stacked with quality midfielders in their ranks including Mesut Ozil, Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey et al and Wilshere believes the competition within the first team is "unbelievable."

“It’s unbelievable and it’s down to us as individuals to make that place ours”, he was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

“That’s going to be tough, of course it is, but I’m up for the challenge and I’m sure all the other boys are as well.”
