Rangers assistant boss David Weir feels that the squad are looking very fresh following having been given Sunday and Monday off.

The Gers had been due to lock horns with Raith Rovers at the weekend in a Scottish Championship match, but the game was called off due to the effects of Storm Desmond.

Weir admits that Rangers would have rather played, but the squad were still in for training, while they were then given a breather by boss Mark Warburton to recharge their batteries.

"Fortunately we were able to train so we did that and tried to make the most of it, we would have much rather had a game but training was second best", he explained to his club's official site.

"We still got some work in and got something out of the day, at least we hadn’t got to the stadium and then found out the game was off and then we’d have had to travel all the way back", Weir continued.

"We managed to give the boys Sunday and Monday off which was good and they deserved that having had a couple of games in the previous week.

"It’s good for them to recharge their batteries and they came back in on Tuesday and were really fresh and bright", the former defender added.

Next up for Rangers is a visit from Morton on Saturday as they attempt to strengthen their grip at the top of the Scottish Championship standings.

Morton currently sit fourth in the league standings, but are a whopping 17 points behind Rangers after 16 games.

The two teams have already met this season, Morton being thrashed 4-0 by the Gers.
