Swedish top flight club Kalmar FF are to explore a potential partnership with Premier League giants Liverpool in the new year, with a trip planned to Merseyside for either January or February.

Liverpool recently beat Kalmar to the signing of young Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi, leaving the Swedish outfit smarting.

But there could be a silver lining for the side which finished just above the drop zone in the Allsvenskan this season, in the shape of a partnership with the Reds in the future.

The club's sports manager Thomas Andersson admitted a forthcoming trip to Anfield and told 24 Kalmar: "I'll visit Liverpool in January or February.

"We want to continue forming connections, seeing their work from the academy to the senior side and see what we can do there", he continued.

"We'll just see what it leads to – if it leads to something."

Kalmar managed to take 31 points from their 30 league games this season, six more than Falkenbergs, who finished in the relegation playoff spot in the Allsvenskan.

The Swedish outfit will be hoping they can tap into Liverpool's up and coming talents, in turn providing the Reds with a potential proving ground for their youngsters.
