Memphis Depay allegedly mocked Robin van Persie over his transfer to Fenerbahce during a spat which started on the training ground while on international duty.

Depay, who signed for Manchester United last summer while Van Persie headed away from Old Trafford to sign for Fenerbahce, was involved in an exchange of words with Van Persie on international duty with the Netherlands in October.

Netherlands boss Danny Blind played down the incident at the time, but according to Dutch magazine Voetbal International, the incident saw Depay mock Van Persie for moving to Fenerbahce.

The incident occurred in training when the ball was fed through to Depay, with Van Persie unmarked and looking for the pass.

Instead however Depay opted for a back-heel to Jairo Riedewald, something which incensed Van Persie.

The former Arsenal striker is alleged to have asked Depay at dinner if he thinks he is a big boy, to which Depay replied: "Do big boys play at Fenerbahce then?"

Van Persie was subsequently on the bench for the Netherlands' game against Kazakhstan, while Depay was initially omitted from the national team squad in November, before being called up due to a number of withdrawals.

With 50 goals in 101 caps, Van Persie is the highest goalscorer of all time for the Netherlands.
