Newcastle United have quoted Roma a price of £30m in order to agree to sell midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Sky Italia

The Dutch international, who joined Newcastle from PSV Eindhoven last summer, was in great form in the 2015/16 campaign.

Wijnaldum scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 38 Premier League appearances last season, but his efforts were not enough to help the Magpies avoid relegation.

As a result, the 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle in the summer,, and Roma are interested in taking him to Italy.

The Giallorossi have identified Wijnaldum as a replacement for Miralem Pjanic, who is close to securing a move to Juventus after undergoing a medical with the Italian champions today.

However, Newcastle’s asking price is proving to be a hindrance for Roma, who are not prepared to shell out £30m for Wijnaldum.

Roma are aware of the inflated prices of England-based players and are keen to remain patient and strike a deal with Newcastle for a reduced fee.

Wijnaldum, whose present contract with Roma runs until 2020, has 30 caps and six goals for the Netherlands to his name.
