Victor Wanyama says he had "no problem" dropping back into central defence for Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday's 2-2 draw away at Manchester City.

Spurs lost Toby Alderweireld to a hamstring injury during the course of the game at the Etihad Stadium and boss Mauricio Pochettino brought on Harry Winks, dropping Wanyama back into defence.

The powerful midfielder says he had no issue with being deployed at the back, though he knew he had to remain fully switched on given just how dangerous Manchester City are going forward.

"They have a good team and when Toby was injured, I thought maybe we’d put in another centre-back, but I saw Harry Winks coming on and I had to go back there", Wanyama told Spurs TV.

"That’s no problem though, I just needed to concentrate because City are sharp in front of goal", he added.

Wanyama may be needed in defence again soon dependent upon the results of Spurs' assessment of Alderweireld's injury.

The White Hart Lane outfit are already without centre-back Jan Vertonghen, who has been ruled out for six weeks.

However, Pochettino could opt to play young defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, who was an unused substitute at the Etihad Stadium as the Argentine tactician preferred other options.
