The status of Crystal Palace's bid to buy Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is mired in confusion given a new claim that Liverpool have rejected the Eagles' latest offer.

It had been claimed on Tuesday that Crystal Palace have an agreement in principle to sign Sakho for an initial £20m, however the structure of add-ons to take the final total to £30m had not yet been finalised.

Nevertheless, the deal looked well on the way to completion before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday evening.

But according to the Press Association, Liverpool have rejected Palace's latest proposal for Sakho.

It is claimed the Eagles' latest bid for Sakho was £22m initially, with a further £3m in add-ons, to take the total fee to £25m.

Such a sum is not enough for Liverpool and has been rejected, with the Reds valuing the centre-back at the £30m mark.

Sakho has been frozen out of the first team picture at Liverpool by Jurgen Klopp, but the Merseyside club are still not ready to let him leave for less than they believe he is worth.

The defender has also attracted interest from West Brom.
