Rangers star Andy Halliday believes the Gers' 3-0 win over Livingston at Ibrox was a side showing the signs they must to be in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Steven Gerrard has transformed Rangers' form at Ibrox and the Gers secured another three-point haul by seeing off Livingston thanks to goals from Daniel Candeias, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield.

Rangers had to dig in to get the job done and although the performance was not always easy on the eye, it was effective and means that the Gers are still just two points behind league leaders Celtic.

And Halliday, who has been deployed as a left-back of late by Gerrard, feels that such wins are what sides in title races must do.

He told Rangers TV: "It was a difficult test today, I think over the years we have been guilty of when we haven’t been at our best we haven’t picked up results.

"I think it is refreshing that we have maybe not played at our fast flowing, attacking best but we have managed to get a comfortable victory in the end.

"If you want to be in title race and pick up medals at the end of the season you have to win these types of games.

"You look back eight weeks ago and we were in that type of game at Livingston and we never picked up the victory that day and certainly weren’t at our best in that 90 minutes.

"It is good that we flipped that round this time and managed to get a positive result."

Rangers can now focus on their Europa League duties with Spanish outfit Villarreal due to arrive in Scotland for a Group G encounter at Ibrox on Thursday.

Their next Premiership fixture is a trip to Hearts next Sunday.
