Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has hailed former Burnley team-mate Kieran Trippier as the best right-back in Britain, while talking up his talent to contribute going forward in addition to his defensive duties.

Arfield played alongside Trippier, who is now at Tottenham Hotspur, at Turf Moor and the defender's skills left their mark on the Rangers man.

The Canada international is full of admiration for Trippier and admits he was delighted to see the Spurs defender earning praise from all quarters for his performances with England in the World Cup in the summer.

Picking his top team for Rangers TV, Arfield said: "I've always been saying he's the best [right-back] in Britain for me, a top, top player.

"After the World Cup, and during the World Cup, he got his plaudits from everybody.

"Obviously I think it was the semi-final against Croatia, that one he put in, I was absolutely delighted for him.

"It's just his ability to pick a pass from anywhere on the pitch", Arfield stressed.

"He can play in a striker, he can wrap it into a central midfielder, he can get forward, he has a trick in him, he's always going to score goals, create goals.

"I saw the other day he's got the most chances created in the Premier League, so that's his game."

Trippier is under contract with Tottenham until the summer of 2022 and the 28-year-old has now clocked up 90 appearances across all competitions for the north London giants.

A product of Manchester City's youth system, Trippier was on the books at Burnley from 2011 until 2015.
