Rangers target Steven Davis has revealed that he is currently not giving much thought to his contract situation with Southampton.

Davis, who joined Southampton from Rangers in 2012, has enjoyed smooth sailing on the south coast with the Saints after making 191 appearances and scoring 12 goals.

The Northern Irishman has enjoyed regular playing time at St Mary’s ever since his arrival, but has been restricted to just under 100 minutes so far this season in the Premier League.

Davis is currently in the final year of his contract with Southampton and will be able to talk to clubs outside England in a matter of weeks.

The midfielder has been linked with former club Rangers and Steven Gerrard's men could make a move for the 33-year-old, but Davis insists he has not thought about his contract situation at Southampton yet.

“I haven’t genuinely given it much thought”, Davis was quoted as saying by the Southern Daily Echo.

“It’s probably the first time I have come into the last year of my contract, but my focus is just getting us out of this situation as quickly as possible.

“Having been here so long and feeling that responsibility, I want to see the club doing well.”

Davis was left out of the Southampton matchday squad that suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cardiff City during Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first game in charge on Saturday in the Premier League.
