Celtic legend Pat Bonner believes the Bhoys will be alarmed by their home defeat at the hands of Red Bull Salzburg in the Europa League.

The Bhoys needed to draw against the Austrians to make sure of progress to the last 32 of the competition, without relying on other results, but slipped to a 2-1 loss.

Celtic were even 2-0 down until a stoppage time penalty was converted by Olivier Ntcham, while the evening was made worse by an injury picked up by Ryan Christie.

However, Celtic have qualified, as in the group's other game Rosenborg held RB Leipzig to a 1-1 draw.

Nevertheless, Bonner thinks Celtic will be concerned by how they were brushed aside by Red Bull Salzburg.

"Celtic will be a little alarmed that they weren’t able to match the Salzburg team at home", Bonner said on BBC Radio Scotland.

"That’s the only disappointment. They’ll be happy they’re through."

The former Bhoy also stressed the financial importance of qualification, adding: "It’s a big one financially for the club to stay in Europe and a great learning lesson for the players."

Celtic will now wait to find out who they will be pitted against in the last 32 of the Europa League, with the draw to take place on Monday.
