Celtic defender Filip Benkovic has revealed that the Hoops cannot afford to relax in games as it sends the wrong message to opposing sides.

The Hoops are a point clear of closest rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table, and have a game in hand over their arch-rivals.

Brendan Rodgers' side have bounced back from their last defeat against Hibernian to win back to back games with 3-0 scorelines, and Benkovic believes it is all about sending a message every time the team take to the pitch.

Benkovic, who is on loan from Leicester City, also said that the team are focused on getting the job done against Aberdeen, who they face this afternoon.

“The whole of December has been very important for us. It has been very tough”, Benkovic was quoted as saying by the Herald.

“But in every game you play you send a message.

“If you relax a little bit it can punch you in the face. We must take these games 100 per cent seriously.

“We need to go game by game. Now we must focus and prepare for Aberdeen.

“They are a good team and we respect them a lot. But we know our qualities and we want to take maximum points."

The clash against Aberdeen will be followed by the Glasgow derby where Celtic will take on Rangers in a game that might have a bearing on the title race.
