The Sweden international was one of the two signings Everton completed on the final day of the international transfer window last week, tying the Roma player to a one-year loan deal.

Olsen has been brought in through the door at Goodison Park by Carlo Ancelotti to compete for the number 1 spot, currently occupied by Jordan Pickford, who has been placed under the microscope due to his proneness to error.

Everton’s acquisition of the Swede has been backed by former Inter goalkeeper and ex-Cagliari boss Zenga, who is an admirer of the player, having briefly worked with him last term.

Zenga managed Olsen at Cagliari for a brief period in the last campaign and, despite the little time spent together, can vouch for the goalkeeper, with the Italian a fan of his personality and attitude.

Robin is an amazing goalkeeper“, Zenga told The Athletic.

He is tall and strong with a great arm span — enough to cover the space of the net!

He was a great signing for Cagliari in the time while [Alessio] Cragno was absent through injury and he has a great personality and strong attitude.

I didn’t work for a lot of time with him because of COVID-19, then in June he finished his contract but I appreciated his personality and his professional attitude.

Having joined on a season-long loan deal, Olsen will be looking to take Pickford’s place between the sticks at Goodison Park.
