Diogo Jota gave Liverpool the lead ten minutes after the break in the Champions League clash and Mohamed Salah sealed all three points with an injury-time strike.

But at half-time Liverpool were sweating against the Danish side, with Midtjylland more than holding their own against the Premier League champions at Anfield.

Sviatchenko expressed his delight at the overall performance of his team-mates and was happy that they kept getting at Liverpool from the first to the last minute, and were even the better team during moments of the game.

Sviatchenko told TV3+: “It was a really good performance all the way through the 90 minutes.

“We were on our toes, we were forward and we were aggressive from the first to the last minute. It was a performance as we had hoped.

“We could play right up with Liverpool and at times, we were even better.”

At half time there was a feeling for some that Midtjylland could produce a shock result at Anfield and Sviatchenko insisted that at half time that the team genuinely thought about winning.

He did concede that had his team been a bit more cynical, they could have got a result against Liverpool.

“We talked about not having to settle for this.

“It was the only opportunity we had to create a shock at Anfield. We had belief that we could win in the second half.

“So we talked about that no one will remember if it is a 0-0 or we lose. It could have gone differently had we been more cynical.”
