Son has emerged as one of the most lethal forwards in the Premier League over the last two years, and his game has gone up a level this season under Jose Mourinho.

He is also one of the most popular members of the squad at Tottenham, but Van der Vaart has indicated that his comfort at Spurs is totally different from the shy person he met at Hamburg previously.

The former Spurs star conceded that he never felt Son had it in him to open up inside a dressing room, but when he recently met him, he had changed as a person.

Van der Vaart feels at Tottenham the South Korean has found the right atmosphere to thrive both as a player and a person and admits he is delighted for him, with Spurs a superb fit.

“I didn’t think that he had the [ability to be] really open and walk into a dressing room”, Van der Vaart told The Athletic.

“Never. He was a little bit shy.

“But I saw him recently and he’s totally found his place at Tottenham.

“Really the right club for him.

“Everybody loves him, I’m so happy for him.”

Son has nine goals in as many Premier League games this season for Tottenham and is highly rated by Spurs boss Mourinho.
