Barcelona failed with an attempt to sign Garcia in the summer and are plotting a fresh move in the January window.

The Spaniard is out of contract next summer and could arrive on a free transfer, but Barcelona want to sign him in January in order to bolster their defensive options.

However, the Catalan giants have alternatives in mind if Manchester City refuse to sell the defender for what they deem a reasonable price in the winter transfer window.

And according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal’s Mustafi and Chelsea’s Rudiger are being closely monitored by Barcelona.

Mustafi is out of contract at the end of the season and Arsenal could be prepared to let him go in order to bring in some money from his departure.

Rudiger has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and could be prepared to leave the club in January in order to boost his chances of being in the Germany squad for next summer’s European Championship.

Barcelona could also consider bringing Jean-Clair Todibo back from his loan spell at Benfica to bolster their options.

With Gerard Pique out injured, Barcelona are determined to bring in a new defender in the winter window.

However, financial concerns continue to dominate and the club may have to continue to trust in youngster Oscar Mingueza.
