The 23-year-old took a major step in his career this year, swapping Swansea City for Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur in the transfer window.

While Rodon has made strides forward in a short span of time, his senior career began in England’s fourth tier with Gloucestershire-based Cheltenham almost three years ago.

Recalling his time with Rodon, Johnson, the then Robins boss, has revealed that he had concerns over the defender’s ability to cope with the competitiveness of league football but was proven wrong by the youngster, who was not fazed by anything.

Johnson heaped praise on the Welshman, who was on loan from Swansea, for his confidence and personality before insisting that his former player has the chance to make it big at his current club Tottenham.

Sometimes you wonder about the young lads because they can be great footballers and not cope with the competitiveness of it“, Johnson told the Daily Telegraph.

You’re going to get an elbow in the face.

You’re going to get players trying to rough up younger players and that is what he coped with.

Nothing fazed him. His personality is that way anyway.

It was just an air of confidence and he has a great opportunity now at Tottenham.

He’s in a team doing well and the world is his oyster.

Rodon has made three Premier League appearances for Tottenham so far this season, with his first start for Spurs coming against Chelsea last weekend.
