The German joined Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin in September in a bid to clock up regular game time after falling out of favour at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp.

However, Karius is yet to feature in a single game for the Union Berlin since making switch, with coach Urs Fischer opting to play Andreas Luthe ahead of the Reds loanee.

According to German broadcaster Sport 1, Liverpool could recall Karius and will be watching closely when Union Berlin announce their team this evening.

The Reds will see if Karius is selected and if he is again overlooked then it could make up their mind to end his loan next month.

Liverpool are not keen for Karius to be in Berlin simply to warm the bench and could look for an alternative destination for him.

However, even if he does not play tonight, Fischer’s men will then play Bayern Munich, Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund before the January transfer window swings open.

It remains to be seen whether Karius will earn an opportunity on the pitch to exhibit his craft before the turn of the year
