The Brazilian has endured a poor spell on loan at Porto, playing a part only two of the Dragoes’ 12 Primeira Liga outings so far this season.

Anderson’s parent club West Ham are concerned by his lack of action and are reportedly considering cutting his loan stint short in the current transfer window.

Along with Anderson, winger Nakajima is another player linked with leaving Porto this month, and former Dragoes star Costa revealed he prefers the Japanese to stay put over the Hammers loanee.

Costa is an admirer of Nakajima and feels he could be more useful to the team than Anderson, who has struggled to earn Porto boss Sergio Conceicao’s trust since leaving from England in October.

“I would prefer Nakajima to stay [over Anderson], because I like him more”, Costa said on Radio Renascenca’s Bola Branca.

“And I think he could be useful, but the administration and Sergio are the ones who have to take these kinds of factors into account.

“They need to see, depending on the commitments, if they have enough players so they can maintain their level or, eventually, they can get someone else as replacements. “

Anderson’s contract at the London Stadium runs through until the summer of 2022 and it remains to be seen whether he will return to the capital club in the coming weeks.
